Tell us briefly how KBR is supporting the Iraqi First Program;

 KBR has a long history of giving back to the communities in which we work. KBR supports the Iraqi First Initiative by hiring Iraqis, subcontracting to Iraqi companies and buying from local suppliers. Our business stretches across Iraq; we have requirements all over the country. We conduct business with both large and small Iraqi owned companies. KBR's participation in upcoming events such as the IACCI Baghdad Business Expo illustrates our support for the Iraqi First Initiative. As the largest military contractor in Iraq, we hope our support for the Iraqi First program will significantly contribute to Iraq's economic development and help bring about stability.

Tell us about KBR's plan to buy Iraqi goods and services; has it been successful thus far?

Over the last few years, KBR has procured hundreds of millions of dollars in goods and services from Iraq-based companies. Due to ongoing violence and stringent security requirements, we were limited in how much business we could do with Iraqi firms. However, with an improved security outlook and increased focus on economic development there are many more opportunities for Iraqi companies.

What do you see as KBR's greatest challenge in doing business with Iraqi Firms?

 Security is still a tremendous challenge; we are constantly impressed with our Iraqi suppliers who strive to deliver despite dangerous and challenging circumstances. We are proud of our proven success working side by side with Iraqi businesses. Our Iraqi suppliers and subcontractors are an essential part of our everyday operations.

What are some of the obstacles you face while trying to buy more Iraqi goods and services?

We are many times faced with situations in which Iraqi companies are not familiar with the requirements of government procurement. Our recent efforts have focused on educating Iraqi companies about procedure requirements. We have found that once companies understand our requirements and standard process, they are able to do business with us much more successfully. We are encouraged by the progress, and look forward to future success with the help of our Iraqi partners.
